Exploring Virtual Devices for Multi-Lamp Control

I’ve been diving into the world of virtual devices lately, and it’s been quite the journey! My goal is to control two separate lamps with bulbs from the same brand as a single unit, allowing me to manage both their on/off states and brightness levels seamlessly. While I’ve had some success with apps like Mirror and creating rules, I’m still not hitting the mark perfectly.

I decided to try creating a virtual device, thinking it might bridge the gap. I set it up as a ‘Single Element Classic’ and saved it, but when I tried toggling it on or off, nothing changed in the device states. I even tried switching to a ‘Generic Z-Wave Dimmer’ type, but the result was the same. It’s frustrating because I know the potential is there, but I’m clearly missing something.

I’ve also been exploring the idea of migrating from a C-5 Hub to a C-7, but the thought of losing all my settings is daunting. I’ve reached out to Hubitat Support, but so far, no luck with a clear answer. If anyone has experience with this kind of migration, I’d love to hear their tips!

On a lighter note, I’ve had some fun experimenting with lighting effects inspired by Monet’s Waterlilies. It’s a great way to add some artistic flair to my smart home setup. If anyone else is into creative lighting, I’d love to hear your ideas!

Overall, while there are definitely challenges, the community support and the possibilities of virtual devices keep me excited. Let’s keep sharing tips and tricks to make our smart homes even smarter!
