Exploring WiMoto Sensors: A Cost-Effective Solution for Smart Home Monitoring

I recently came across WiMoto sensors, and I must say, they’ve piqued my interest! These Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) based sensors are priced at $40 each, which is quite affordable compared to other options I’ve seen. Plus, their long battery life makes them a great choice for remote monitoring without frequent replacements. However, there’s a catch: the SmartThings SmartHub doesn’t support Bluetooth, so WiMoto offers a $99 Arduino-based bridge to connect these sensors to their cloud service. This bridge not only acts as a gateway but is also hackable, which opens up possibilities for integrating other BLE sensors in the future. I’m particularly tempted by the water sensor option, as it’s significantly cheaper than Z-Wave alternatives I’ve encountered. The challenge now is deciding which sensors I truly need for my setup. Would love to hear others’ experiences with WiMoto or similar solutions!
