I’ve been on a quest to find the perfect z-wave device that offers a lower volume chime or beep for notifications like doorbell rings, door opens/closes, or motion detected at the gate. After some research, I came across the Wireless Sensor Tag System and decided to give it a try. These tags are versatile and can detect motion or leaks, which adds an extra layer of security to my home.
I’ve successfully integrated them with Vera to notify me when a tag is triggered, but I’m still figuring out how to communicate from Vera to the tags. It seems there’s an authentication requirement, and as someone with minimal programming experience, this has been a bit of a challenge. I’d love to see if others have tackled this or if there’s a Lua code sample that could help me get started.
The potential use case is pretty straightforward—imagine a scene where motion detected on the front porch triggers the tag to beep 15 times. This could be a great way to alert someone in the area that the space is monitored. If others find this useful, maybe a plugin would make sense?
If anyone has any suggestions or sample code, I’d be grateful! It’s been a fun project so far, and I’m excited to see where it goes. ![]()
