Exploring Wyze Cam Pan v3 and Smart Lock Automation

Hi everyone, I wanted to share my recent experiences with the Wyze Cam Pan v3 and my journey into setting up a smart lock automation system. It’s been quite an adventure!

First off, I recently upgraded my Wyze Cam v3 to the Wyze Cam Pan v3, hoping for better coverage and smarter motion detection. However, I’ve encountered a couple of issues that are a bit frustrating. The camera seems to be overly sensitive to motion, even when I’ve adjusted the sensitivity settings. It’s constantly chasing cars passing by, which I tried to mitigate by setting up a motion detection zone. Unfortunately, the camera doesn’t return to its original position after tracking motion, which is a significant downside. It ends up pointing towards the street, which isn’t ideal. I’m hoping this is a firmware issue that will be resolved soon.

On the positive side, I’ve been working on automating my front door lock using SmartThings. I wanted to create a system where the lock automatically unlocks when I’m near and locks securely when I’m away. After some research and trial and error, I managed to set up a routine using geofencing. When I leave my home, the lock automatically engages, and when I approach, it unlocks. It’s a great feeling to have this level of convenience and security!

I’d love to hear from others who have experience with Wyze cameras, especially regarding motion detection and camera positioning. Also, if anyone has tips on improving geofencing accuracy or suggestions for alternative automation setups, I’d be grateful for the insights.

Stay curious and keep exploring the world of smart home tech!
