Exploring Wyze Cam v2 Compatibility with MacBook Pro

Hey everyone, I’ve been diving into the world of home security lately and decided to give the Wyze Cam v2 a try. It’s been a bit of a rollercoaster, but I thought I’d share my experiences and maybe get some insights from the community.

So, I started by flashing the Wyze Cam v2 with the webcam firmware. At first glance, everything seemed to be working smoothly on my 2018 MacBook Air. But when I tried connecting it to my newer 2020 MacBook Pro (10th generation Intel CPU), things took a turn for the worse. The camera would briefly appear in FaceTime and Photo Booth, but then disappear after a few seconds. The same issue occurred when I booted into Windows via Boot Camp. It was perplexing—why would it work on one device but not the other?

I experimented with different cables and even tried a USB-C to USB-A adapter, but nothing seemed to resolve the issue. The camera simply wouldn’t stay connected. On the other hand, my 2018 MacBook Air remained a reliable partner, though it did have the occasional hiccup that a quick reboot would fix.

After some research and reaching out to Wyze support, I discovered that this might be a hardware compatibility issue specific to certain MacBook Pro models. While there’s no official workaround yet, I found that using an external USB hub with power delivery helped stabilize the connection to some extent. It’s not a perfect solution, but it’s a step in the right direction.

This experience has been a great learning curve for me. It’s reminded me that even with all the advancements in smart tech, compatibility can still be a bit of a puzzle. I’m curious to hear if anyone else has encountered similar issues or has any tips to share. Let’s keep the conversation going!

Cheers,
