Hey everyone, I’m diving into the world of Wyze cameras and smart home automation, and I wanted to share my experience and ask for some advice. I recently purchased a Wyze V3 camera for my garage and decided to attach lamp sockets to it. The goal is to use these sockets for some dusk-to-dawn lighting automation, but I’m running into a bit of a snag during the setup process.
First, I’ll walk through what I’ve done so far. I installed the lamp sockets and went through the setup in the Wyze app under settings > accessories > lamp socket. The installation seemed straightforward, but I’m encountering an error message that says I should check my Wi-Fi connection and unplug the camera. I’ve done all that—rebooted the camera, checked the Wi-Fi connection, the whole works—but the issue persists. Has anyone else experienced this? I’m starting to wonder if it’s an operator error on my part, but I can’t seem to figure it out!
Now, onto the dusk-to-dawn automation idea. I’m curious about how the lamp sockets integrate with this feature. Do I need a separate lamp socket for each light bulb in my garage, or can I just use the one attached to the camera? I’m trying to keep things as streamlined as possible, so any insights here would be super helpful.
On another note, I stumbled upon a really cool project where someone submerged a door sensor in their pool to monitor water temperature. It’s a pretty wild idea, but it’s working surprisingly well so far! They’re using Google Home to query the pool temperature, and now they’re looking into how to ‘trick’ Google into thinking the sensor is a thermostat. I’m not sure if that’s feasible, but it’s an interesting challenge. Maybe there’s a clever device handler or workaround out there that I’m not aware of.
Lastly, I wanted to mention a little frustration I’ve had with the keypad on my Nuki setup. It’s consuming way too much power, and I’m having to replace the batteries every few days. I upgraded the firmware, tried different brands of batteries, but nothing seems to help. It’s a shame because the rest of the system has been rock solid since I set it up in 2022. If anyone has any suggestions or has encountered a similar issue, I’d love to hear how you resolved it.
This journey into smart home automation is both exciting and a bit overwhelming at times, but I’m learning so much along the way. Thanks for reading, and I look forward to hearing your thoughts and experiences!
