I recently decided to give Wyze cameras a try, and I must say, the experience has been quite enlightening. After researching and settling on some Reolink cameras, I thought it would be fun to start with Wyze’s affordable solutions. The setup process was surprisingly smooth, and the mobile app made it easy to get started. However, as I delved deeper into custom integrations, I encountered a hiccup that made me rethink my approach.
Initially, I was thrilled with the cameras’ performance. Installing and setting them up was a breeze, and the app provided a user-friendly interface for tweaking settings. I even attempted to write some custom Node.js integrations using RTSP, which worked out pretty well. But then came the unexpected issue—trying to switch one camera to a different Wi-Fi network led to a persistent error: ‘cannot find specified network name.’
Despite multiple attempts, including factory resets and contacting support, the problem persisted. Ian from Wyze support was courteous and helpful, but the resolution left me wanting more. It’s clear that Wyze has a lot of potential, but there’s room for improvement, especially in areas like API access and local storage options.
This experience taught me the importance of thorough research and community support. While I’m still optimistic about Wyze’s products, I encourage others to explore their options and provide feedback to help these promising companies grow. If you’ve had similar experiences or tips to share, I’d love to hear them!
Cheers,
