Exploring Wyze Video Doorbell Pro Without Battery

Hey everyone, I came across an interesting project someone did with the Wyze Video Doorbell Pro. They managed to remove the battery and make it work solely on wired power. I thought it was pretty cool, especially since the newer V2 model already comes without a battery. I wonder if this modification is something others have tried or if there are any potential issues I should be aware of before attempting it myself.

From what I gather, the process involves carefully disassembling the doorbell, unplugging the battery connector, and then reassembling it without the battery. The key takeaway is that without the battery, the doorbell can’t be powered via the micro USB port anymore—it only charges the battery. So, it has to rely on the AC power directly.

I’m curious about the benefits of this mod. It seems like it eliminates the need for constant battery charging, which might reduce heat generation and prolong the device’s lifespan. Plus, rebooting the device is as simple as flipping a breaker instead of physically pulling it off the wall. That’s a minor convenience but still nice.

On the flip side, I’m a bit concerned about the warranty. The person who did this mentioned that voiding the warranty is a risk, so I’d have to weigh that against the benefits. Also, I’d like to know if others have had any issues with firmware updates or functionality after making this change.

If anyone has tried this or has insights, I’d love to hear about your experiences! It might help me decide if it’s worth giving it a shot.
