Hey everyone, I wanted to share my recent journey into upgrading some of my smart home devices to Z-Wave 700/800 modules. For those of you who might not be familiar, I’ve been using Z-Wave 500 devices for quite some time now, and while they’ve been reliable, I’ve noticed some limitations, especially with battery life and network performance.
After doing some research, I came across the Z-Wave 800 series modules from Silicon Labs, which promise significant improvements in energy efficiency and range. I was particularly intrigued by the ZGM230S SiP module, which is designed for seamless integration into smart home devices. The idea of not having to change batteries every year sounded like a game-changer for me, especially with my growing collection of smart devices.
I decided to start with a thermostat upgrade, moving from a Z-Wave 500 model to the Remotec Thermostat Z-Wave 800er Serie. The installation process was straightforward, and the integration with my existing Home Assistant setup was seamless. What really impressed me was the noticeable improvement in responsiveness. The thermostat now updates its status almost instantly, and the energy consumption has dropped significantly compared to its predecessor.
I’ve also been experimenting with setting up a more robust network using Aeotec Range Extenders. While they’ve been working well, I’ve noticed that monitoring their status isn’t as straightforward as I’d like. I’d love to hear from others who might have tips on how to effectively monitor and troubleshoot range extenders in a Z-Wave network.
Overall, my experience with the Z-Wave 700/800 upgrade has been overwhelmingly positive. The improved efficiency and reliability have made my smart home setup more enjoyable and less maintenance-intensive. I’m definitely looking forward to upgrading more devices in the coming months!
If anyone has questions or experiences to share about their Z-Wave upgrades, I’d love to hear from you. Happy automating! ![]()
