Exploring Z-Wave Integration for Smart Lighting

I’ve recently embarked on a journey to integrate Z-Wave into my smart home setup, and I must say, it’s been an enlightening experience! :rocket: My goal was to automate my lighting system for better energy efficiency and convenience. After some research, I decided to go with Z-Wave because of its reliability and wide range of compatible devices.

I started by setting up a Z-Wave network using the Z-Wave JS add-on in Home Assistant. The process was smooth, and I managed to include several Z-Wave devices, including dimmers and smart switches. However, I encountered an interesting challenge with one of my devices—a Smart Energy Switch G2. The device kept showing errors related to unknown data in its metadata, specifically in the meterType field.

To troubleshoot, I followed the suggested steps: I healed the network, reinterviewed the node, and even tried resetting the device. Unfortunately, the error persisted. I’m now reaching out to the community to see if anyone else has faced a similar issue or has any insights on how to resolve this.

On a more positive note, the integration has been working flawlessly for my other devices. The ability to control my lights through voice commands or the Home Assistant app is fantastic. It’s amazing how much easier it makes my daily routine—like automatically dimming the lights in the evening or turning them off when I leave the room.

I’m also exploring the possibility of creating custom scenes using Z-Wave devices. For instance, I’d love to set up a scene where all my bedroom lights dim to 50% when I press a specific button on my keypad. I’m curious if anyone has experience with custom scenes involving Z-Wave devices and could share some tips or resources.

Overall, my experience with Z-Wave has been predominantly positive, and I’m excited to continue expanding my smart home setup. Any advice or recommendations from the community would be greatly appreciated!
