Exploring Z-Wave Migration and OpenHAB Automation Tips

Hey everyone,

I’ve been diving into the world of smart home automation lately, and I wanted to share some of my experiences and questions with you all. I’ve been working on migrating my Z-Wave setup from ZWaveJSMQTT to ZWave JS, and honestly, it’s been a bit of a rollercoaster. I’ve heard mixed things about whether ZWave JS will ever include features like network diagnostics or OTA firmware updates, which I really miss from the old setup. Has anyone successfully navigated this migration without losing their network or HA namespaces? I’d love to hear your strategies!

On a lighter note, I’ve been experimenting with creating some custom scenes and timers in my setup. For instance, I recently acquired a Remotec ZFM-80 momentary switch to control my garage door opener. It’s my first Z-Wave device, and while I’ve got it working on the HAAS screen, I’m struggling to figure out how to set it up so it turns on for just a second or two and then turns off automatically. I’ve scoured the documentation and the Control Panel, but nothing seems to click. Any tips or tricks would be greatly appreciated!

Another thing I’ve been curious about is energy-saving rules. I’d love to have my lights turn off automatically if they’re left on for more than 30 minutes, especially since most of them aren’t on motion sensors. I’ve checked the rule engine and some apps, but I haven’t found a straightforward solution yet. Is this something I should look into more deeply, or is there a simpler way I’m missing?

Lastly, I wanted to share a fun project I’ve been working on. I’ve been slowly integrating more devices into my setup, and it’s amazing how much they’ve enhanced my daily routine. From smart lighting to automated thermostats, every little tweak makes a big difference. I’d love to hear about any cool projects or automations you’ve been working on lately!

Thanks for reading, and I look forward to hearing your thoughts and experiences!

Cheers,
