Hi everyone, I’ve been diving into the world of Z-Wave devices lately and wanted to share some of my experiences and questions. As someone who’s been using Insteon switches for years, I’ve recently started integrating Z-Wave devices into my setup, and it’s been a fascinating journey!
One of the main reasons I’m exploring Z-Wave is to move away from battery-powered solutions. I’ve been using a Topgreener motion sensor with an Insteon micro module, but the results have been a bit mixed. I came across the GE/Jasco Motion Switches (Z-Wave Plus models) and was curious about their compatibility with my ISY system. Do they support a ‘smart mode’ where motion is reported to the ISY, allowing it to send commands without autonomously turning on lights? I’d really prefer not to have a standalone motion switch, as I want full control through the ISY.
Another area I’m exploring is smart switches. I’ve heard great things about the Aeotec Smart Switch 6 (ZW096-B09), but I’ve encountered some reliability issues. They work perfectly when close to the Z-Wave controller, but as soon as I move them further away, they become unstable and even show up as dead nodes. Has anyone else experienced this? I’d love to hear if there are any workarounds or if I’m missing something in the setup.
On a lighter note, I’ve also been enjoying the flexibility of integrating different devices. For instance, I’ve set up a rule where my towel rail turns on at a specific time or when a virtual switch is toggled. However, I’d like to enhance this by adding a feature where turning off the manual switch immediately shuts off the towel rail. Any advice on how to modify the rule would be greatly appreciated!
Lastly, I’m curious about others’ experiences with motion sensors and smart switches. Are there any hidden gems or devices that consistently perform well? I’d love to hear your recommendations and tips!
