I’ve been diving into the world of Z-Wave thermostats lately, and I wanted to share some of my experiences and questions with the community. I recently purchased a Honeywell T6 Z-Wave thermostat, and while it’s been a solid addition to my smart home setup, I’ve encountered a few quirks that I’m hoping to resolve.
One thing I’ve noticed is that the interface provided by Vera is functional, but I’m curious about unlocking more advanced features. For instance, I’d love to know if there’s a way to determine whether the thermostat is heating normally (using the heat pump) or if it’s switching to emergency heat (oil burner). This distinction would be incredibly useful for optimizing energy usage and ensuring everything is running smoothly.
I’ve also stumbled upon an external temperature sensor that the thermostat uses to decide when to switch to emergency heat. However, the thermostat itself doesn’t display the current reading of this sensor. I’m wondering if there’s a way to retrieve this data or if the userdata file (attached below) might hold some clues.

Additionally, I’ve come across some discussions about the Energy and Normal buttons on the Control tab, but I’m still unclear on their exact functions. If anyone has insights or tips on how to make the most of these features, I’d be grateful!
On a more positive note, I’ve found the Z-Wave community incredibly supportive. If you’ve encountered similar challenges or have tips to share, please feel free to chime in! Let’s continue to explore and optimize our smart home setups together.
