Exploring ZigBee Binding and Home Automation Integration

Hi everyone, I’m new to the world of home automation and I’m really excited to dive into this! I’ve been experimenting with integrating different devices into my smart home setup, and I came across some interesting challenges and insights that I’d like to share.

My Journey with ZigBee Binding

I recently tried setting up the ZigBee binding for my smart home devices. From what I understand, ZigBee is a great protocol for low-power devices like sensors and switches. However, I noticed that the binding PR is still open, and I’m not entirely sure how to proceed with getting it up and running. I checked the GitHub repo and saw that there are some commits and changes, but I’m a bit confused about where to find the actual ZigBee binding files. Have any of you successfully integrated ZigBee devices into your setup? I’d love to hear your experiences!

Nest Thermostat Mystery

Another thing I’ve been curious about is the Nest thermostat. I’ve read a few forums where users mentioned issues with the comfort sensor not staying active. I have a similar setup, and I’m wondering if there’s a workaround for this. The idea of having the thermostat switch to the comfort sensor automatically based on my location sounds amazing, but it’s frustrating when it doesn’t hold the setting. Has anyone found a reliable solution for this?

Automating Event Logging

I’m also looking into automating the logging of events from my sensors. My goal is to have temperature and humidity data from multiple sensors logged in one place so I can analyze it later. I thought about using IFTTT to push this data into a Google Sheet, but I’m hoping for a more seamless solution that doesn’t rely on cloud services. Maybe something with RRDtool or Cacti? I’m not sure how to set this up locally, though. Any tips or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Shelly Device Integration

On a positive note, I’ve had great success with my Shelly devices. They’ve been reliable and easy to integrate with my system. One thing I noticed, though, is that the rollerPos channel isn’t available on the Shelly Plus 2PM, which I upgraded from the Shelly 25. I had to work around this by using the control channel and calculating the position mathematically. It’s a bit of a hack, but it works! I’m curious if others have encountered similar issues and how they’ve resolved them.

Looking Forward

Overall, I’m really impressed with the potential of home automation, but there’s definitely a learning curve. I’m excited to continue exploring and improving my setup. If anyone has tips, tricks, or resources they’d like to share, I’d be happy to hear them!

Thanks for reading, and happy automating! :rocket:
