Exploring Zigbee Connectivity and Sensor Automation Insights

Hello fellow smart home enthusiasts! I’ve been diving into the world of Zigbee and sensor automation lately, and I wanted to share some of my experiences and questions with you all. :star2:

First off, I’ve been experimenting with Zigbee devices to enhance my home’s connectivity. I recently set up a couple of Aqara vibration sensors in my living room, but I’ve encountered some connectivity issues. I purchased an Ikea Zigbee switch and lightbulb hoping they’d act as routers to improve the signal, but unfortunately, the sensors are still offline. I’m curious if anyone has successfully used similar devices as routers or has tips on optimizing Zigbee connections. :rocket:

Another project I’ve been working on involves creating custom sensor automations. I’ve configured a template sensor to monitor wind speed over 12 hours, but I’m facing some challenges with its visibility in the UI. I’ve included the relevant YAML configurations, but the sensor doesn’t show up as expected. I’d love to hear if anyone has encountered similar issues or has advice on troubleshooting this. :bar_chart:

On a lighter note, I’ve also been exploring the integration of BLE presence detection. I’ve set up my watch and phone to trigger specific actions when I’m near, but I’m still figuring out the best way to assign these devices to persons in Home Assistant. Any insights or best practices on this would be greatly appreciated! :video_game:

Lastly, I’ve been contemplating an upgrade to the Qolsys 4 system, particularly interested in its silent arming feature. I have a mix of existing sensors and would like to know if they’re compatible. Additionally, I’m curious about the user experience with silent arming and if it’s as seamless as advertised. :clock3:

I’d love to hear your thoughts, experiences, and tips on these topics! Let’s keep the discussion going and help each other navigate the exciting world of smart home automation. :bulb:
