Exploring Zigbee Devices and Energy Monitoring

Hi everyone, I’ve been diving into the world of Zigbee devices lately and I must say, it’s been a fantastic journey! I recently set up a couple of Zigbee buttons around my home, specifically the TS0042 model, and they’ve been working like a charm. The integration with my smart home system has been seamless, and it’s so satisfying to have everything connected and functional.

I wanted to share my setup process in case anyone is looking to do something similar. Here’s what I did:

  1. Device Setup: I started by ensuring my Zigbee coordinator was in the best possible location to cover all areas of my home. Then, I carefully placed the buttons in strategic spots—by the front door, in the living room, and near the kitchen.

  2. Configuration: Using the Home Assistant interface, I paired each button and assigned them specific actions. For example, the front door button triggers a welcome scene that turns on the lights and adjusts the thermostat.

  3. Testing: After setting everything up, I did a thorough test to ensure all buttons were working as intended. It’s always a relief when everything functions smoothly without any hiccups!

Now, I’m looking to expand my setup further and I’m curious about energy monitoring solutions. I’ve come across a few options, but I’m not entirely sure which one would be the best fit for my home. I’d love to hear your recommendations!

  • Option 1: The Aeotec Z-Wave Home Energy Meter seems like a solid choice, but I’m not sure if it’s compatible with my existing setup.
  • Option 2: I also found the Owl USB+ 3-phase energy meter, which looks promising, but I’m concerned about the lack of 433MHz gateways in my area.
  • Option 3: The RFLink gateway caught my eye as a potential solution, but I’m not entirely sure how to integrate it with my current system.

If anyone has experience with these devices or has other suggestions, I’d be incredibly grateful for your insights. I’m really excited to take my smart home setup to the next level with energy monitoring, and I can’t wait to hear what you think!

Cheers,
