As I delve deeper into the world of smart home automation, I’ve been exploring the integration of Zigbee devices and troubleshooting some common issues. One of my recent projects involved setting up Zigbee switches for controlling non-smart lamps in my home. While the process seemed straightforward, I encountered a few hurdles that I’d like to share and discuss with the community.
First, I wanted to replace traditional light switches with smart Zigbee modules. I chose the SONOFF ZBMINIR2 Zigbee switches, which are known for their reliability. However, after installation, I noticed that the devices weren’t reflecting changes unless I recommissioned them through the SmartThings app. This was a bit frustrating, especially since the devices were already commissioned. I reached out to the community for advice and discovered that sometimes a simple firmware update or a reset of the device can resolve such issues.
Another challenge I faced was with my smart lock. I recently purchased a Wyze lock bolt, and while it works seamlessly for unlocking, I couldn’t find an option to add keypad settings. This was a bit puzzling, as I expected the keypad functionality to be more accessible. After some research and reaching out to the Wyze support community, I found that the keypad settings might be hidden under a different menu or require a specific app update. Thankfully, after updating the app, the keypad settings became available, and I was able to add custom codes for family members.
In addition to these hardware integrations, I’ve also been experimenting with creating routines and automations using Hubitat. One of my favorite features is the ability to trigger actions based on doorbell presses. I’ve set up a system where pressing the doorbell not only alerts me but also triggers lights to flash inside the house. This has been particularly useful for notifying family members when someone is at the door.
