Exploring Zigbee Network Optimization and Device Integration

Hi everyone,

I’ve been diving into the world of Zigbee and smart home integration lately, and I wanted to share some of my experiences and questions with the community.

First, I’ve been working on optimizing my Zigbee network. I started off by placing my routers strategically around the house, ensuring good coverage. However, I’m still curious about whether it’s worth rebuilding the network from scratch to ensure everything is set up correctly. I’ve heard that starting with routers and then adding end devices at their final locations can make a big difference, but I’m not sure how much of an impact it would have on my current setup.

Another topic I’ve been exploring is the integration of non-Zigbee devices into my smart home ecosystem. For instance, I recently picked up a Dimplex heater and was wondering if it’s possible to control it via OpenHab. I’ve done some research and found that with the right bindings, it might be achievable, but I’m not entirely sure how to proceed. If anyone has experience with this, I’d love to hear your insights!

I’ve also been experimenting with dash buttons for automating daily tasks, like watering plants in my greenhouse. It’s been a fun project, but I’ve encountered some quirks with the automation rules. The dash buttons keep triggering on their own, which is a bit puzzling. I’ve shared my rule setup in the logs, but I’m not quite sure where the issue lies. Any troubleshooting tips would be greatly appreciated!

Lastly, I’ve been curious about creating a local-only dashboard for monitoring my smart home devices. I’ve looked into SmartTiles, but I’m concerned about security and exposing access tokens. I’ve considered using a Raspberry Pi with a touchscreen for a more secure setup, but I’m not sure if it’s feasible. If anyone has experience with this or knows of existing projects, I’d love to learn more!

Thanks for reading, and I look forward to hearing your thoughts and experiences!

Best regards,
