Exploring Zigbee Range for Home Automation

Hi everyone, I’m excited to share my recent experience with Zigbee technology for home automation. I’ve been planning to integrate Zigbee devices like IKEA lights and Xiaomi sensors into my smart home setup. One of my main concerns was the range of the Zigbee dongle, especially in a 100m² house. I did some research and found that the range can vary depending on the environment and obstacles, but overall, it seems sufficient for my needs. I also wanted to confirm if devices controlled by Alexa can be managed through OpenHAB, acting as a gateway. From what I understand, OpenHAB supports Zigbee devices, so it should work seamlessly with Alexa-integrated devices. I’m planning to get a Raspberry Pi 4 for this project, but I’m not sure if it’s the best choice for an amateur. Any recommendations or tips would be greatly appreciated! I’m looking forward to hearing your thoughts and experiences with Zigbee and OpenHAB.
