Exploring Zigbee Sensor Connectivity and Stability

Hey everyone, I wanted to share my recent experience with integrating Zigbee sensors into my smart home setup. I’ve been using Homey as my primary controller, and I’ve managed to connect a variety of Zigbee devices, including some Aqara sensors. However, I’ve encountered an interesting challenge that I thought might be worth discussing with the community.

Initially, everything was working smoothly. I had a good mesh network set up with several routers and repeaters, which I thought would ensure reliable connectivity. However, I noticed that a few of my Aqara sensors were losing connection periodically. Upon closer inspection, I realized that this issue occurred specifically when the sensors routed their signals through a RobbShop dimmer. While the dimmers themselves function perfectly as lighting controls, they seem to cause instability in the Zigbee network when acting as routers.

To address this, I tried a workaround by restarting Homey and temporarily bypassing the problematic dimmers. This solution worked for a short period, but as the dimmers were reintegrated into the network, the issue resurfaced. It’s frustrating because the sensors are crucial for my automation routines, and the intermittent loss of connection disrupts the seamless experience I was aiming for.

I’m curious if anyone else has encountered similar behavior with Zigbee devices routing through certain types of dimmers. Is there a way to configure Homey to prioritize other routers or explicitly exclude certain devices from acting as routers? Any insights or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

On a more positive note, I’ve been impressed with the overall reliability of Homey and the Aqara sensors. The ability to create a robust mesh network with multiple devices is a testament to the potential of Zigbee technology. I’m hopeful that with some tweaking and community input, I can find a long-term solution to this connectivity issue.

Thanks for reading, and I look forward to hearing your thoughts or experiences with similar challenges!
