Hi everyone! I’m relatively new to the world of smart home automation and I’m absolutely thrilled with how much I’ve been able to achieve so far. I wanted to share my journey and ask for some advice as I continue to expand my setup.
First, I’d like to talk about my Zigbee setup. I recently upgraded to the Home Assistant SkyConnect radio, and I must say, it’s been a game-changer. I’ve managed to connect several Zigbee devices, including lights and sensors, with ease. However, I’m curious about the reliability of Zigbee2MQTT compared to the default ZHA integration. Has anyone had a better experience with Zigbee2MQTT, especially in terms of device connectivity and stability?
Another area I’m focusing on is camera placement. I’ve installed a doorbell cam and a few indoor cameras, but I’m not entirely confident about their placement. I’m looking for tips on how to position them for optimal coverage and security. If anyone has any suggestions or has tried specific camera models that work exceptionally well, I’d love to hear about it!
On the automation front, I’ve been experimenting with Node-Red to create custom workflows. It’s incredibly powerful, but I sometimes struggle with optimizing my flows. For instance, I recently set up a system to monitor the status of my garage door using a GoControl thermostat. While it works, I feel like there might be a more efficient way to handle the state updates. Does anyone have tips on streamlining Node-Red automations or best practices for handling device states?
Lastly, I’m excited to share that I’ve successfully integrated my smart home with Siri. It’s amazing how seamless it is to control my devices using voice commands. I’m curious if others have tried similar integrations and if there are any hidden gems or tricks they’d recommend.
I’m really enjoying the journey of building my smart home and can’t wait to learn more from the community. Thanks in advance for your insights and advice!
