Upgrading my home’s lighting control system has been on my to-do list for a while, and I’m finally diving into it. I’ve been researching the best way to integrate smart switches into my setup, and I came across two main options: using existing switches with Shelly devices or purchasing new Zigbee switches.
The first option, using Shelly Switch in Edge mode, is appealing because it allows me to repurpose my current switches without a complete overhaul. I’ve heard great things about Shelly’s compatibility with Home Assistant (HE), but I’m still a bit unsure about how Edge mode works within HE. I’d love to hear from anyone who has experience with this setup—how seamless was the integration, and are there any quirks or issues I should be aware of?
The second option involves buying standard Zigbee light switches, likely Tuya-based with AU certification. While this might offer more direct integration, I’m concerned about the cost and whether they’ll be as reliable as the Shelly option.
I’m leaning towards the Shelly solution because it seems more economical and potentially more reliable. However, I want to make sure I’m not missing out on any features or benefits that the Zigbee switches might offer.
If anyone has successfully integrated Shelly Switches in Edge mode with HE, I’d appreciate any tips or insights. Also, I’m curious about the ease of installation and whether there are any specific configurations that make the process smoother.
Looking forward to hearing from the community and learning from your experiences!
