Exploring Zigbee2mqtt and Camera Integration Challenges

Hi everyone,

I’ve been diving into the world of Zigbee2mqtt and camera integration lately, and I wanted to share my experiences and thoughts with the community. While I’ve had some great successes, there have also been a few hurdles that I’ve encountered along the way.

First off, I’ve been using Zigbee2mqtt for controlling my LED lights, and while it works for the most part, I’ve noticed some inconsistencies. For instance, transitioning effects don’t always behave as expected. Sometimes, the lights flicker or take longer to respond than they should. I’ve tried tweaking the automation settings, but it’s still hit or miss. It’s a bit frustrating, but I’m hopeful that future updates will iron out these bugs.

On the camera front, I’ve been experimenting with setting up a front porch camera. My main requirements are motion-activated recording and the ability to store footage on my home server. I’ve looked into a few options like Ring and Skybell, but they either come with subscription fees or don’t quite meet my storage needs. I’m still on the hunt for a reliable, subscription-free camera that integrates smoothly with Home Assistant. If anyone has recommendations, I’d love to hear them!

Another interesting challenge I faced was trying to change the device ID of a Zigbee device in Zigbee2mqtt. It’s a bit of a workaround, but I managed to do it by editing the devices.yaml file. However, it would be so much easier if there was a more straightforward way to do this through the UI. I wonder if others have found a better solution or if there’s a feature request in the works.

I’ve also been keeping an eye on the community discussions about camera lens kits. The idea of adding a telephoto lens to boost magnification sounds amazing, especially for monitoring areas like the far end of the driveway. I’d love to see WyzeCam explore this option in future updates. It would make their cameras even more versatile!

Lastly, I wanted to mention the support I’ve received from this community. Whenever I run into a problem, there’s always someone willing to help out or share their experiences. It’s really encouraging and makes me feel part of a supportive family. Thanks to everyone who contributes to these discussions!

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and experiences!
