I recently embarked on a project to extend my Zigbee network, aiming to cover more areas of my home with smart devices. I started by setting up Zigbee2MQTT using a Sonoff 3.0 dongle as the coordinator. Pairing two Sonoff S31ZB plugs was straightforward, and they showed up as routers. However, when I tried connecting an Aqara door and window sensor, I encountered an issue—it only paired with the coordinator, not the smart plugs. This was a bit puzzling since I expected the plugs to act as routers to extend the network range. I also experimented with ZHA and Deconz, but the problem persisted. After some research, I realized that while the Sonoff plugs are capable of acting as routers, there might be a configuration step I was missing. I decided to try resetting the network and re-pairing the devices, which eventually worked. Now, my Aqara sensor pairs with the plugs, enhancing the mesh network’s reliability. This experience taught me the importance of thorough configuration and the benefits of community forums for troubleshooting. If anyone else is facing similar issues, I recommend checking the manufacturer’s guidelines or seeking advice from experienced users. Happy networking!
