Family Room Lighting Setup and Automation Tips

Hey everyone, I wanted to share my recent experience setting up my family room lighting and some automation tips I’ve picked up along the way. It’s been a fun project, and I hope this helps someone else out there!

I recently added a cylindrical lamp to complete my family room setup. After some initial troubleshooting with a non-working corner lamp, I reached out to Govee support, and they were fantastic—sending a replacement quickly and efficiently. It’s now up and running, and the room looks amazing!

Now, onto the automation part. I’ve been experimenting with setting up a routine where the lights turn on with motion detection during the night. The idea is to provide a safe path for late-night trips to the kitchen without disturbing others. However, I’ve noticed that the lights sometimes don’t shut off reliably after 5 minutes. I’ve tried tweaking the logic in my rule machine, but it’s still hit or miss. Any advice on improving this would be greatly appreciated!

Another thing I’ve been curious about is integrating my Wyze Pan Cam v3 into the setup. While it’s great for security, I’ve noticed that the playback functionality isn’t as intuitive as with my other cameras. I’d love to hear if anyone has figured out a better way to navigate the playback on this model.

Lastly, I’ve been exploring the idea of using a Shelly Plus 1 to control some additional lights and maybe even send temperature data to a web interface. It’s been a bit of a learning curve, but the possibilities are exciting!

If anyone has tips on optimizing automation reliability, camera integration, or smart home device setups, I’d love to hear them. Let’s keep the ideas flowing and help each other create the smart home of our dreams!

Cheers,
