Fibaro Motion Sensor Experience and Tips

Recently, I’ve been experimenting with the Fibaro Motion Sensor ZW5 in my home setup, and I wanted to share my experience and some tips I’ve gathered along the way.

One of the first things I noticed was the update interval for the Lux values. Initially, I was a bit frustrated because the sensor seemed to update once every hour, and the readings didn’t always match the actual lighting conditions in the room. For instance, I observed a swing from 22 Lux to 155 Lux and back to 22 Lux over a two-hour period, even though there were no significant changes in the room’s lighting.

After some research, I found that using the official Device Handler (DH) provided by SmartThings was recommended, but it didn’t offer an option to adjust the update frequency. I tried deleting and re-adding the DH, and even left the device next to the hub for 24 hours, but the issue persisted.

I also compared it with my Iris motion sensor and noticed that the Fibaro seemed slower to update. Out of curiosity, I looked into the Aeotec MultiSensor 6 ZW100-A to see if it offered better update flexibility, but I’m still sticking with the Fibaro for now.

One thing I discovered was that the Lux value is displayed with a unit placeholder, like 10 ${unit}, which I find a bit unusual. I’m not sure if this is normal or if there’s a way to customize it further.

Despite these challenges, I’ve found the Fibaro Motion Sensor to be a reliable addition to my setup. It’s helped me better monitor activity in my home, and with some adjustments, it works well for my needs. If you’re considering this sensor, I’d recommend exploring the official DH thoroughly and maybe reaching out to the community for additional insights.

I’d love to hear how others are using the Fibaro Motion Sensor and any tips or tricks they’ve discovered!
