Hey everyone, I wanted to share a little project I worked on recently with my Homematic IP rain sensor. I’ve had this sensor for about half a year now, and it’s been working perfectly. But just the other day, it suddenly stopped detecting rain! It was pouring outside, and the sensor just wasn’t registering anything. I was a bit puzzled, so I decided to take a closer look.
When I opened up the sensor, I discovered the issue right away. Two pine needles had gotten stuck in the mechanism, effectively stopping it from working properly. At first, I was a bit frustrated—how could something so small cause such a problem? But then I remembered something my wife mentioned earlier.
She had some old nylon stockings that she wasn’t using anymore. I thought, why not use one of those to cover the sensor? It’s a simple idea, but it seems to be working perfectly. I stretched the nylon over the sensor and secured it in place. It’s almost invisible from a distance, but it provides a nice layer of protection against any debris that might get stuck in there.
Since I made this little fix, the sensor has been working like a charm again. It’s such a small change, but it makes a big difference. I wanted to share this in case anyone else is dealing with a similar issue. Sometimes, the simplest solutions are the best ones!
