Fixing Zigbee Connectivity Issues with a Smart Plug

Hey everyone, I wanted to share my recent experience with my Zigbee network. I’ve been having trouble with a switch module in my bathroom that kept disconnecting. After some research, I discovered that the Low Quality Indicator (LQI) was quite low at 39, which I believe is not ideal.

I decided to try using a smart plug as a Zigbee repeater to boost the signal. I found one on AliExpress that works with Australian/New Zealand plugs, which was perfect for my setup. The installation was straightforward—just plug it in near the bathroom wall, and it started improving the connectivity almost immediately!

Here’s what I learned:

  • Check LQI: If your device’s LQI is below 50, it might need a booster.
  • Use Smart Plugs as Repeaters: They’re affordable and can significantly enhance your network coverage.
  • Test Before Buying: If possible, test the repeater in different locations to find the optimal spot.

It’s been a week, and I haven’t had any disconnections yet. This fix has been a lifesaver!
