I wanted to share an incredible solution I came up with using Wyze technology to prevent flooding in my garage. It’s been a lifesaver and a great example of how smart home devices can solve real-world problems!
The Problem
Our garage recently flooded due to a hidden pipe leak behind the wall. The water kept seeping through the blocks and spilling onto the floor, even after turning off the main water supply. Manually pumping the water every few minutes wasn’t practical, and I was worried about waking up to another flood.
The Solution
I decided to automate the process using a Wyze Cam v3 and a Wyze Outdoor Plug. Here’s how I set it up:

Detection Zone Setup
- I placed the Wyze Cam in front of the affected block and set up a detection zone to monitor the area where water would spill out.
- To ensure accurate detection, I used a simple fishing bobber attached to a weight. When water fills the cavity, the bobber rises into the camera’s view.

Automation with Wyze Outdoor Plug
- Connected a small, dry-run pump to the Wyze Outdoor Plug.
- Set up a routine so that when the Wyze Cam detects movement in the designated zone (triggered by the bobber rising), it activates the pump for 3 minutes. This drains the water and lowers the bobber, stopping the detection.

Monitoring and Peace of Mind
- I monitored the setup remotely through the Wyze app and was amazed at how consistently it worked. The pump drained the water just in time, and I never had to worry about another flood!

Wyze products are fantastic because they’re affordable, reliable, and versatile. The Cam v3’s detection zones are incredibly configurable, and the Outdoor Plug made it easy to automate the pump without any complicated wiring.
