Hey everyone, I wanted to share my journey with integrating the Foscam R4M into Home Assistant. At first, it was a bit of a puzzle, but I’m thrilled to say I’ve cracked it! ![]()
I’ve been using the Foscam R4M for a while now, and the quality via the web interface is amazing. However, when I tried setting it up in Home Assistant, it was anything but smooth. The stuttering video was frustrating, especially considering my setup is pretty robust—running on a Ryzen 9 3900X with 128GB RAM, so performance wasn’t the issue.
I experimented with different configurations, tried the generic platform with RTSP, but nothing worked. It was like the camera was speaking a different language to Home Assistant. Then, after some digging, I stumbled upon the importance of the MJPEG stream over RTSP. Turns out, tweaking the settings to prioritize MJPEG made all the difference!
Now, the video streams smoothly, and I couldn’t be happier. It’s such a relief to have everything working as it should. I wanted to thank the community for all the tips and tricks that helped me along the way. If anyone else is struggling with Foscam integration, give the MJPEG stream a try—it might just be the solution you’re looking for! ![]()
Happy automating everyone! ![]()
