Hi, i know its possible to get a distance reading from tge fp300, but only when i send the request to do so. Is it possible to get a continuous distance measurement? Or would this drain the battery due to constant tx?
I want to automate a speaker in my toilet to play a welcome and exit message.

@b5x4ngswp8 FP300 does have a lot of adjustable presence-related parameters in Zigbee mode (like detection mode/range and an absence delay timer), but in the info we have here there’s no mention of a supported “continuous distance measurement” reporting mode (i.e., a constantly updating distance value you can subscribe to).
On the battery side: FP300 is specifically designed to be power-efficient by using a dual-sensing approach (PIR + 60GHz mmWave) to reduce power consumption, and it’s rated up to 3 years on Zigbee / 2 years on Thread under typical usage. Constant, high-frequency transmissions would generally be expected to reduce battery life, but Aqara hasn’t provided a spec here for what “continuous distance streaming” would do to battery (or whether it’s even exposed).
For your “welcome/exit message in the toilet” idea, you may get a more reliable result using what FP300 explicitly supports in Aqara Home Zigbee mode:
- Trigger “welcome” from presence detected
- Trigger “exit” from absence detected + tune the absence delay timer to avoid false exits while you’re sitting still
If you want a definitive answer on whether FP300 can output distance continuously (and if there’s a supported report interval / API), you’ll likely need official confirmation.
