Frigate and BlueIris Integration: A User's Experience

As someone who has been exploring the world of home security cameras, I wanted to share my experience with integrating Frigate and BlueIris into my home automation setup. While I primarily use BlueIris for its robust features, I’ve been experimenting with Frigate as a backup solution running on my Proxmox server. The integration with Home Assistant has been a game-changer for me, especially with the granular control options available through the configuration YAML file in Frigate.

One feature I’ve particularly enjoyed is the ability to adjust thresholds, contours, and contrast directly through the UI. It’s incredibly convenient to tweak these settings on the fly, and I’ve even set up some automation in NodeRED to change the contrast via MQTT. This level of control is something I wish the BlueIris integration had for motion detection adjustments.

I’ve also appreciated how Frigate handles video recording and object detection, making it a reliable secondary system. While BlueIris remains my primary setup, having Frigate as a backup gives me peace of mind. The community support for both Frigate and BlueIris has been fantastic, and I’m grateful for the resources and documentation that make these integrations possible.

If you’re considering adding Frigate to your setup, I’d highly recommend exploring its integration with Home Assistant. The flexibility and control it offers make it a valuable addition to any security system. Happy automating!
