Hi everyone, I wanted to share my recent success with integrating Frigate into my home security setup. I’ve been using a standalone camera system, but it wasn’t fully integrated with my Home Assistant setup. After some research, I decided to try Frigate with my existing Reolink cameras, and I’m thrilled with the results!
Initially, I was a bit overwhelmed by the setup process, but I found some great guides that helped me get started. I decided to install Frigate on my Raspberry Pi 4, which already runs Home Assistant. The key challenge was figuring out where to store the video recordings. My Raspberry Pi only has a 250GB SSD, so I opted to use my QNAP NAS for storage. It took a bit of tweaking, but I managed to set up a shared folder between the Raspberry Pi and the NAS.
One thing I learned is the importance of proper configuration. I spent some time adjusting the motion detection settings to reduce false positives, especially with pets running around. Frigate’s integration with Home Assistant has been seamless, and I now have a fully functional surveillance system with object detection and notifications.
For anyone considering Frigate, I’d recommend starting small, maybe with one camera, and gradually expanding. Also, don’t hesitate to reach out to the community for help—there are some really helpful people out there! If you have any questions or need advice, feel free to ask—I’m happy to share what I’ve learned.
