Hey ,
Drop in and share my newbie-to-not-so-newbie experience with Aqara. When I started, I could barely tell a hub from a sensor. My goal? Make life a little easier without turning my apartment into a science project.
Fast forward two months, and I’ve got automations doing everything short of making coffee (still working on that). Motion sensors trigger hallway lights at night, temp sensor keeps my mini heater in check, and my favorite—bedroom blinds that open gradually to natural light thanks to a light sensor + curtain motor combo. Waking up has never felt this sci-fi.
What helped me most was starting slow—one device at a time. First the hub, then a motion sensor to test out basic automations, and from there just added sensors and switches as I got the hang of it.
Not gonna lie, I hit some bumps—mainly around device pairing and figuring out what automation logic actually makes sense in everyday use. But once it clicks, it’s oddly addictive.
Anyone else here who started from scratch and now can’t stop tinkering? Love to see what automations you all swear by!
Cheers,
Matt (currently obsessed with scenes and mode triggers)
