Alright , I gotta share this one — because I was this close to giving up on my Aqara G4. Coming from a mostly Google-based setup, I didn’t want to go full Apple Home, but I also didn’t want the G4 just sitting pretty doing nothing.
Enter Home Assistant.
I’m not some smart home wizard — more like an average tinkerer who refuses to read manuals unless totally stuck. But guess what? After a weekend of head-scratching, Reddit-hopping, and a little too much coffee, I got my G4 fully working with HA.
Big win? Local control and no cloud dependency. Also got motion notifications, doorbell events, and even snapshots pushed directly into my dashboard. Super slick.
Trickiest part? Getting it detected properly. Hint: don’t rely only on integrations — go the RTSP + MQTT route if needed.
Now my G4 talks to my lights, and even triggers a routine when my dog walker shows up at the door. Feels like a mini Jarvis moment.
So yeah, if anyone’s sitting on a G4 wondering if it’s worth the hassle on Home Assistant — it totally is. Just pack a little patience and expect a few “why is this broken again?” moments.
Anyone else try this? Would love to see your automations or hacks.
