When you’re starting out it can be easy to buy the cheapest hub like the M100. This is great if you’re just looking to connect a few light bulbs and smart plugs but if your ambitions for your smart home are grand then you should consider buying a hub that supports more device connections, it will save you a lot of trouble in the future.

Great advice! In many cases, people buy cheaper things as a starter, because “it’s just to try something out, I don’t need the expensive stuff if I don’t know if I’m into it”. But I also think buying the cheapest stuff is a mistake.
Because the cheapest stuff is also harder to use/configure. Or it has less features, which means it won’t fit your use case.
I’m not saying to buy the most expensive stuff. But usually something in the middle is a better choice, because it gives a better example of capability and more flexibility.

Well let’s face it there is always second hand option I have a few Aqara devices witch I bought new but all the rest are second hand and they all works great.for ex my M3 hub cost me 55 euros way less then it cost new sow there are options if you are not an reach person to afford new devices.

I have 43 thread devices connected to m100, around 20 matter over wifi and bridged sensors from tapo and Tuya, everything is working without issues, m100 is not bad.
49 automations.
Plus m100 is working as thread border router for Apple and home assistant at same time.
As a matter controller it’s great.
