With Apple’s WWDC26 announcement that HomeKit Secure Video now supports native 2K and 4K recording (previously capped at 1080p), is there a confirmed roadmap for the Aqara Camera G100 to receive a firmware update supporting this new spec?
Specifically:
Is the G100’s hardware (sensor, chipset, encoder) even capable of meeting the new HKSV bitrate/HEVC requirements Apple outlined, or would this require newer hardware?
If supported, is there an estimated timeframe (this year / next firmware cycle / no plans)?
Will this apply to G100 units already purchased, or only future hardware revisions?
Thanks — this would be a deciding factor for a few of us choosing between the G100 and newer models like the G350 for HomeKit setups.
Hello , There is a high probability that the G100 camera simply won’t be able to support this due to its hardware limitations. I think all future products will be compatible with Apple’s new policy, and perhaps more powerful older cameras will receive updates to enable this, but that is just speculation.
There shouldn’t be a reason why all of their existing cameras that support higher resolutions can’t send that to HomeKit secure video once it is unlocked.
Hardware limitation reasons don’t make much sense to me given we can view uncapped resolutions of every product in the Aqara app directly.
Feel like if they don’t allow it on some cameras it’s only to encourage upgrading when it may not be needed.
There are specific hardware requirements in the new HKSV Secure Video spec around using webrtc, supporting 5+ concurrent streams, codec requirements…that’s just off the top of my head.
It’s certainly possible for a camera to support high resolution but not be able to handle these requirements.
Whether this is the case for any of Aqara’s cameras is unknown, though.
Their cameras already do all of those things in the Aqara app and has native webrtc.
We’ve all been speculating for months now since the HKSV announcement and I’m really wondering at this point why Aqara hasn’t commented and just said which cameras will be updating firmware to uncap the resolution made available to apple home.
There’s a large amount of users including myself that have been waiting for any kind of comment before committing to more purchases.
