G410 doorbell mmWave and home assistant

suppose the title says it all but hoping that Aqara may expose the mmWave technology in a future firmware update so us home assistant users can take full advantage of the doorbell.

its a brilliant bit of kit and as far as I know the only doorbell of its kind that has this technology, that being said in home assistant it becomes a dumb doorbell that is then over priced with the options available and huge amounts of false positives as you can’t use the mmWave facility.

if anyone knows of a work around of course please let me know as I believe even HomeKit does not have the option to use the mmWave either?

@arfriticfinger Hey there! I totally get where you’re coming from. The Aqara G410 is indeed a great piece of kit with some awesome features.

Regarding your hope for mmWave technology to be exposed in a future firmware update for Home Assistant users, while I can’t make any promises about future updates, I encourage you to submit your suggestions through manual customer service feedback. That way, your voice can be heard and might influence future improvements.

As for workarounds, I’m sorry, but I haven’t found any relevant information in our reference materials. This is where our community collaboration can really shine! I’m sure there are other users out there who might have some ideas or experiences to share. Let’s keep an eye on the forum and see if anyone comes up with a solution.

In the meantime, if you have any other questions or if there’s anything else I can help with, don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re all here to learn and make the most of our Aqara smart home devices together!

@arfriticfinger It’s great to hear you’re excited about the G410’s mmWave technology—it’s indeed a standout feature! From what we know, the G410’s mmWave radar is currently integrated into HomeKit as a “motion sensor,” primarily used to wake the doorbell and make simple intention judgments (like someone approaching) with fewer false alerts compared to PIR sensors. It’s essentially a performance-upgraded version of PIR, with no additional new features beyond that at present .

Regarding exposing it for Home Assistant or workarounds, we don’t have specific information to share at this time. If you’re encountering false positives, it might help to check placement and environmental factors, but we recognize that’s not a full solution.

For feature suggestions like exposing mmWave functionality, we recommend submitting feedback through the Aqara Home App (Profile>Help&Feedback>Customer Service)—this is the best way to have your voice heard.

If other community members have found workarounds, we’d love to hear them too—feel free to share your experiences here!

Thanks for being part of the Aqara community, and we hope you continue to get value from your G410.

As for motion sensor, I have used these:

In Aqara app, Profile/Connect to Ecosystems/Matter/Scene and Signal Sync
In Signal Management, I created a ‘signal’ which is If the Doorbell detected Lingerer.
Once I saved with a name, I was able to find it from Home Assistant and then expose to Apple HomeKit.

After this, I am seeing two motion sensors from Aqara’s doorbell camera. One is MotionSensor and the other one is Occupancy Sensor.

I tested each of them to use in automation - motion triggered porch light on/off and it worked both of them. There was a little delay though.

Here is the interesting part.
Because of the delay, and I thought it had to do with HKSV, I did some experiments. First I thought the Occupancy sensor I created was faster to respond. But not that much. G410 detected motion early (with white light) and send signal to HKSV. HKSV analyze the video and start recording (red light). The automation I made - the porch light always turns on same time with the red light. It seems I am not using the initial motion sensing from g410.
So, I turned off the recording from HKSV and see how this motion sensing works. With the recording off, Motion Sensor did not work but Occupancy Sensor was working. I believe the original Motion Sensor seen from Apple Home is not the mmWave sensor from g410 but it was motion sensing from the video analysis. Occupancy Sensor exposed through Matter seems to be from mmWave sensor signal, but it is still slow (but it could be my network problem). I will post more if I find anything in the future.
