I’m running a TP Link Deco 7 with ATT 5 gig fiber. I need any advice on how to keep this thing connected. Constantly getting network issues. Ready to give up. Thanks!

Hello, welcome to the forum.
@Expert, hello. Can anyone help?
Thanks.
Hi! How far is the G410 from the Deco? Are there brick/concrete walls between the Deco and the G410?
G310’s connectivity relies on the chime device. Can you tell if the issue is between the G410 and the chime or the chime and the access point?
- How many Decos?
- How close is the doorbell to the chime?
- How close is the chime to the access point?
Unfortunately, there could be a whole range of factors at play:
Wi-Fi & Network Issues
- Doorbell-to-Chime (2.4 GHz): Thick walls or heavy interference from other devices (Bluetooth, Zigbee, microwaves) can severely weaken the signal.
- Chime-to-Router (5 GHz vs. 2.4 GHz): If the router forces the chime onto the 5 GHz band, the signal may struggle to penetrate walls, causing dropouts.
- Interference & Congestion: Overcrowded Wi-Fi channels from neighbors or high local bandwidth usage can choke the video stream.
- DFS/Radar Interference: Nearby radar/radio signals can force your router to switch channels automatically, temporarily disconnecting the chime.
- Router Settings (mDNS): Misconfigured Multicast DNS can block the “wake up” broadcast signal needed to start the stream.
- IPv6 Reconnections: Routine IP address changes forced by your internet service provider can cause temporary drops.
Power & Hardware Limitations
- Incorrect Transformer Power Supply: Using an incompatible, faulty, or underpowered transformer when the doorbell is hardwired.
- Battery Voltage Sag: 1.2V NiMH rechargeables (like Eneloops) can drop below the operational threshold under load. Using 1.5V Lithium batteries or hardwiring resolves this.
- Faulty/Incompatible USB Power Supply (Chime): An underpowered, low-quality, or defective USB power adapter connected to the chime can cause unstable operation, sudden disconnects, or boot loops.
- Thermal Throttling: Direct sunlight combined with heavy local processing (like face recognition) can trigger hardware protection and drop the connection to prevent overheating.
Software, Servers & Integration
- Smart Home Bottlenecks: Fetching a full stream can hit local network throughput limits, causing timeouts.
Server Routing & Region: When accessing outside your home network, a mismatched app region (e.g., US app in the EU) or poor routing from your ISP to the Aqara servers introduces massive latency. - Smartphone Connection: A weak cellular or remote Wi-Fi signal on your phone when attempting to view the stream.
- Outdated Firmware: Missing critical connectivity and stability patches from recent updates.
I experience the same problem. Chime disconnects
Firmware won’t update. I’ve forced the unit to a 2.4 band. I think it’s time to give up
Are you trying to download the update via the Aqara app or another system, such as Apple Home? Did you receive a specific error message? What version is displayed under device settings in the Aqara Home app? Could you take a screenshot of the firmware version or error message?
I’m using the Aqara app to “update”. I’ve probably tried to do it 25x. It says it downloads and installs sometimes, but when I come back to it it’s still on the old version. I cannot believe how difficult this doorbell is to work with.
The failed update strongly suggests connection drops during the installation process.
Did you manage to check any of the points I mentioned above? Let me know what you’ve already ruled out (especially regarding the mesh network or power supply) so we can narrow down the issue.
My electrician wired it in. One thing I should add is that is DID work on several occasions. I believe mesh reboots or power outages knocked it offline.
I appreciate the help, I might just give up on it. I need something I can trust.
I installed my G410 about a month ago and love it. But I have had a few frustrating experiences with my home automation journey. A couple of times I found that deleting a device and then reinstalling it fixed everything.
The one thing I have found during this journey is that the people on this forum are truly helpful and, dare I say, kind. A rare commodity these days!
