What’s everyone’s thoughts on the G5 Pro Hardwire vs G5 Pro Wifi?

I have 5 of the G5 Pro wifi devices, but the steam with home kit is unreliable, otherwise the recordings are great. I wanted to see what everyone else’s experience is.

I use 5 G5 Pro’s w/WifI and I’ve never had any WiFi issues or any other issues but if I had a choice and a money tree in my yard I would always choose POE. (hardwired)

Since I don’t have a money tree anywhere I didn’t want to pay to have 5+ new Network cables run outside my house it’s not cheap nor easy to reach.

Running the USB-C power cables was easy plus I already had power outlets available in all 5 locations.

Someday maybe I will have Network cables run.

I have mine on WiFi and don’t have issues. A lot of your success depends on your network itself - range, device placement, congestion & interference.

So while POE would likely be more stable, if you share a little more about your network maybe we can point you in the right direction.

Is the issue limited to stream reliability in Apple Home? How are the streams in the Aqara app? What is your Apple Home hub? If possible, I would make sure this is a hardwired Apple TV 4K.

I keep an iPad set up streaming 2 cameras all the time. I’ve tried 3-4 different video apps and they all end up with the same result. After a few hours, the feed is frozen or has gone to a black screen. I was using a mesh network, but I recently replaced it with a Ubiquiti system with 2 hardwired APs and it’s gotten better.

I will try hardwiring wiring the Apple TV to see if that gives a better result.

Not only hardwiring the ATV but also turn off the automatic selection of hubs in Apple Home. Select that one hardwired ATV.

I have 10 cameras running 24/7/365 and one of the best live video viewing apps I’ve found is ‎HomeCam for HomeKit App - App Store HomeCam for ATV & iOS. It rarely fails me. Sometimes it’s need shut down and restarted because a camera has hit a hiccup or something but over all it’s a very good app for viewing live video

I know people like the idea of 24/7 streaming, but I would say HomeKit streaming is not really designed for this. The Aqara hardware itself may not even be optimized for it, though it does offer RTSP preview, which would be better suited for continuous playback.
