G5 Pro HomeKit "Security" - what is it for?

So I have my G5 Pro (Wi-Fi) connected to HomeKit, and I now have “Security” but have no idea what it is and what to do with it. I visited my local Apple Store and they said I needed to speak to Aqara, so here I am.

There are 4 options - Home, Away, Night & Off. Interestingly, if I create an Automation to turn any of these on I am told “This automation requires confirmation to run because it may allow entry into your home.” That’s NOT an Automation in my book!

I’m baffled, anyone have any idea what this is?

G5 Pro HomeKit “Security” are useless until you set them up in the Aqara Home app.
Why?
HomeKit only shows the modes – it can’t actually configure which sensors trigger alarms for “Home”, “Away”, or “Night”.

So if you want use the function, you may need

  1. Open Aqara Home app → Go to Security System settings .
  2. Assign sensors to each mode (e.g., pick which doors/motion sensors trigger alerts in “Away” mode).

Then

  • Manual switching in HomeKit will work.
  • But automations still need confirmation (Apple’s rule, not Aqara).

Hi Sonja, thanks for the reply. Where can I find “Security System settings”? I can’t find it anywhere. Thanks in advance.

If you haven’t added a security card in the Aqara Home APP before, you’ll need to:

  1. Go to the “Home” page,
  2. Tap “Edit” at the bottom,
  3. Add the "Alert System“ card,
  4. Then access the security details page via the card to configure it.

Hi Sonja, thank you so much I’ve added that card and got it all setup.

Have a nice day!
