Hey everyone,
I’ve been working on setting up my ultimate game room with some smart tech, and I wanted to share my progress and challenges. It’s been a fun project, but definitely a learning curve!
So far, I’ve got RGBW outdoor string lights for mood lighting, a Sonos soundbar for immersive audio, and some smart plugs to control the gaming PC and peripherals. I’ve been using Home Assistant to automate everything, which has beenAmazing. For example, when I start a game, the lights dim, the soundbar turns on, and the PC powers up— all with a single button press.
But here’s where I hit a snag: I wanted to set up motion sensors to automatically turn on the lights when I enter the room. I installed some Z-Wave motion sensors, but they kept triggering false positives, especially when the game’s sound got too intense. I tried adjusting the sensitivity settings, but that didn’t help much. Has anyone else experienced this issue with motion sensors in a gaming environment? Any tips would be appreciated!
Another thing I’m curious about is integrating my game console with my smart home setup. I’ve heard you can control smart devices through Alexa or Google Assistant, but I’d love to know if there’s a way to do it directly from the game controller. That would be the ultimate hands-free experience!
If anyone has advice on optimizing smart tech in a gaming room or has tips for better automation, I’d love to hear them. It’s been a great project so far, and I’m excited to keep improving it!
Cheers,
