I’ve always loved the serene sound of water, but manually turning on and off my garden fountain was a hassle. Enter automation!
After some research and trial, I set up a system that automatically turns the fountain on at 8:30 AM when the back door opens and turns it off when I’m away or after sunset. It’s been a game-changer! ![]()
But the journey wasn’t without its bumps. I had to factor in weather conditions—like wind speed and temperature. Turns out, a breeze over 2mph could blow the water stream away, drying out the pump. So, I added a condition to only run the fountain when wind speeds are below 2mph. And to avoid constant on/off switching, I set a 25-minute delay. ![]()
Another challenge was ensuring the fountain doesn’t run during freezing temperatures. I programmed it to only operate when the temperature is above 45°F, protecting both the pump and tubing. ![]()
This project taught me the importance of considering all variables and being patient with tweaks. It’s rewarding to see everything working seamlessly now!
If anyone has similar projects or tips, I’d love to hear about them! ![]()
