I recently decided to install the GE 45856GE in-wall Zigbee switch primarily to serve as a repeater near my garage door. The main goal was to improve the reliability of my garage door open sensor, which has been a bit temperamental. However, I also want to use this switch for manual control of my lights and integrate it with SmartThings for a more seamless smart home experience.
Here’s where I’m curious: Can I manually toggle the lights on/off with this switch while still having the ability to override it through SmartThings? And vice versa, can I set the lights to turn on via SmartThings but then manually turn them off? It would be fantastic if the switch could always default to being off, regardless of its position, when I activate my ‘Good Night’ routine.
I’d love to hear from anyone who has experience with this switch or similar setups. Are there any quirks or best practices I should be aware of? I’m really looking forward to getting this working smoothly to enhance my home automation setup. Thanks in advance for any insights or advice!
