I’ve been diving into the world of home automation for just under two months now, and it’s been an exciting journey of discovery and experimentation. One of the standout products I’ve come across is the GE Dimmer Wall Toggle Switch (12729). It’s been a game-changer for me, especially given that my wife has these beautiful glass decorative switch plates that she’s reluctant to change. I’ve been using these switches all over the house, and they’ve exceeded my expectations in terms of performance and versatility.
Initially, I was under the impression that most wall switches couldn’t provide instant control over scenes, which made me hesitant to set up any scene automation. However, my wife suggested that the kitchen sink light should automatically turn on when the main lights are switched on. This idea piqued my curiosity, and I decided to give it a try, even though I was skeptical about the speed of the response.
I created a simple scene where the kitchen sink light turns off when the main lights are turned off, except at night when it dims to 10%. To my pleasant surprise, the system has been performing exceptionally well. Turning on the main lights almost always results in the kitchen light coming on instantly, with the only exception being when the auxiliary 3-way switch is used. In fact, if the kitchen light is already at 10%, it even outshines the main lights by brightening up almost immediately. When turning the main lights off, the kitchen light takes a bit longer to respond, usually around 5 seconds, but it’s never more than 10 seconds. This level of performance has been a delightful surprise.
I also set up another scene where the bedroom light goes to 100% brightness when switched on, effectively overriding the last level memory. This has worked flawlessly, with the light responding instantly every time. I’ve been able to dim the light, turn it off, and then have it return to full brightness seamlessly. This has made the bedroom lighting experience much more consistent and enjoyable.
For anyone looking to integrate smart lighting into their home, I’d highly recommend exploring the capabilities of the GE Dimmer Wall Toggle Switch. It’s been a reliable and responsive addition to my home automation setup, and the ability to create and automate scenes has taken my smart home experience to the next level. The satisfaction of seeing these lights respond instantly and consistently is truly rewarding, and it’s made me even more excited about the possibilities of home automation.
