I wanted to share a success story that might help others struggling with pairing GE/Jasco in-wall outlets to their SmartThings hub. After hours of frustration and trying every documented method, I stumbled upon a simple workaround that finally worked!
The Problem:
I had two GE/Jasco 12721 outlets that simply wouldn’t pair up, no matter what I tried. I followed all the standard pairing sequences, did device exclusions, tried power cycling, and even searched for alternative solutions online. Nothing worked—until I tried this method.
The Solution:
Here’s what did the trick for me:
- Plug a lamp into the lower (Z-Wave controlled) receptacle.
- Cycle the power using the push button.
- Unplug the lamp and move it to the upper (non-controlled) receptacle. The light should turn on.
- Unplug the lamp again and place it back in the lower receptacle.
- The push button should now toggle the light switch.
- Go to your SmartThings app and add the outlet as a Jasco in-wall outlet.
Why It Worked:
I believe this process helps the hub recognize the outlet by creating a temporary connection that ‘trains’ the hub to see the device properly. It’s a bit of a hack, but it worked perfectly for me!
Outcome:
Both outlets are now paired and working seamlessly in my SmartThings setup. No more frustration, and I can finally control them through my app!
Tip for Others:
If you’re having trouble pairing, try this method before giving up. Sometimes a simple trick like this can save you hours of troubleshooting!
