GE Smart Switches: A Journey of Discovery and Troubleshooting

I’ve recently installed a bunch of the new 14291 GE Switches, and I must say, they’ve been a game-changer in my smart home setup. However, I’ve encountered an odd behavior that’s left me scratching my head. When the hub is rebooted, everything works perfectly—status updates, recent activity logs, the works. But as soon as I manually toggle a switch, the status in the SmartThings app freezes on the old state. It’s like the app is stuck in a loop, only temporarily updating before reverting back. Even the ‘Recently’ tab stops showing new changes until I reboot the hub or remove and re-add the device.

This issue is perplexing because the switches themselves respond flawlessly to both physical and wireless commands. There are no corresponding events in the IDE’s live logging, and zwave repair or breaker resets haven’t made a difference. I’ve scoured forums for similar problems, but nothing seems to fit. I’m starting to wonder if it’s a compatibility quirk with SmartThings or if there’s a setting I’m missing.

On a more positive note, I’ve been experimenting with ESPHome and MQTT, and it’s been fascinating to see how devices can be seamlessly integrated without manual discovery. It’s a testament to how far smart home tech has come. I’d love to hear if anyone else has encountered the GE switch issue or has insights into potential fixes. Until then, I’ll keep tweaking and hoping for a breakthrough!
