Geofencing Workaround for a Specific Room

I’ve been working on a unique geofencing setup for my home, and I wanted to share my experience in case it helps others. My home has five bedrooms, and while the rest of the house follows a predictable schedule, one of the home offices is used unpredictably by my wife. I’ve set up the entire system over the years and continuously refine the schedules, but geofencing for individual rooms isn’t supported in the current version of the software I’m using.

After some research and trial and error, I came up with a workaround. I turned off geofencing for all time blocks across all rooms except for my wife’s study. This way, the geofencing feature only activates when she’s in her study, which is exactly what we needed. It’s a bit laborious since I had to manually adjust the schedules for each room, but it works perfectly for our situation.

I’ve heard about other solutions involving smart home hubs or IFTTT, but I wanted to stick with my current setup since it’s been reliable and energy-efficient. The only downside is that this workaround doesn’t help those looking for broader geofencing capabilities, but for our specific need, it’s a lifesaver.

If anyone has questions about similar setups or needs advice on optimizing their system, feel free to reach out! I’m happy to share more details or troubleshoot together.
