Hello everyone, I’m Eddie, a retired programmer looking to dive into the world of home automation. After some research, I decided to go with Home Assistant (HA) for its flexibility and open-source nature. However, I’m hitting a bit of a snag when it comes to device compatibility, and I could really use some guidance from the community.
I recently moved into a new place and want to automate a lot of things—lights, door locks, thermostats, you name it. I’ve set up an HA instance on a Raspberry Pi, but I’m struggling to find a comprehensive list of supported devices. Specifically, I’m eyeing some smart door deadbolts and thermostats, but I’m not sure how to determine if they’ll work with HA. The integrations page doesn’t provide much detail on specific brands or devices, which is a bit frustrating.
I’ve tried looking through the documentation and community forums, but I’m still not entirely clear on how to proceed. Is there a reliable way to check device compatibility before making a purchase? Any tips or resources would be greatly appreciated!
On a lighter note, I’ve been impressed by the support I’ve encountered so far. For example, when I reached out to Govee’s support team, they were incredibly helpful and pleasant. It’s these positive interactions that keep me motivated to explore more in the world of smart home tech.
Looking forward to hearing from you all and hopefully getting some clarity on my next steps with HA. Thanks in advance for your insights and advice!
