Hello everyone! I’m new to the world of home automation and I’m excited to share my journey with you. I recently set up Home Assistant and I’m trying to create a simple automation that turns on my living room lights when it gets dark. I’ve read through the documentation, but I’m still a bit confused about where to start.
First, I installed the necessary sensors and switches. I have a motion sensor and a smart plug controlling my lights. I know I need to use the automation editor, but I’m not sure how to configure the triggers and actions properly. I saw some tutorials where people use the sun’s position as a trigger, but I’m not sure how to set that up.
I also heard about using the REST API to control devices, but I’m not confident in writing the correct JSON payload. Maybe there’s a simpler way to achieve this without diving into code? I’m hoping someone can guide me through the process step by step.
In the meantime, I’ll keep experimenting and learning. I’m really looking forward to creating more complex automations in the future, like adjusting the thermostat based on the weather forecast or setting up a routine for when I leave the house.
If anyone has tips or resources for a beginner like me, I’d greatly appreciate it! Thanks for your help and support. ![]()
